2015 has almost come to an end, and we humans are at our best, improving what already exists and inventing the unknown. What were luxuries years ago are now necessities. From beggars to rich entrepreneurs, one thing is common. Everybody owns a mobile phone. Communicating has become easier, from facebook to whatsapp to emails. Post has become irrelevant with no one communicating through letters. The only time post man has importance is when we have to receive cheque books, passports or other official information.
My mother, on her blog earlier had posted an article about her hobby of collecting letters and stamps, and this inspired me to share my experience of childhood.
I was in class 4, and we were beginning to learn how to write personal and semi-formal letters in English. During the same time, our social studies teacher was teaching us about the modes of communication, which mainly included television, telephone, fax and post. Since we already had learnt letter writing, she gave us an assignment of posting a letter to her residence, mentioning our experiences and school and how teachers help shape our lives. She provided us with her address and said she would award the student who'd write the best letter.
This assignment excited me as I had never written a letter before, nor did I receive one. So I took help from my mom and wrote the letter with utmost sincerity. Once the letter was shaped to its best, it was my responsibility to drop the letter into the post box.

Back in school, she didn't talk about who all sent her letters. She would continue with her usual lessons, and we moved from chapter to chapter, until another two weeks passed. I wondered if my efforts went in vain because I didn't know if my letter reached its destination. But then, after another week or so, I received a letter addressed to my name.
As it seems, receiving a letter made me feel super special. The 'from address' wasn't mentioned on the envelope which left me even more curious. I opened it and realised it was a reply from my teacher. She appreciated my interest to write the letter, told me I was the best one and a gift was waiting for me in her staff room cabin.

That was also the last letter I ever wrote, unfortunately.
