PROVING INNOCENCE: 1.Discovery

As the alarm rang for the fifth time, Suchit realised he had slept way too much. It was 8:30 in the morning and he had to reach his office by 9:30. With only an hour left, it was almost impossible for him to get to work early. It was an everyday drama, given that he was never an 'early to bed, early to rise' kind of a guy. His mother called out 'Suchit, please wake up. You're going to get late to work, and you'll end up skipping your breakfast as usual'.
He was already up by now, so he didn't bother answering. He rushed into the bathroom, did the usual and within ten minutes he was out afresh. Though in haste, he wore his best suit and combed his hair carefully. It was an important day for him, it was his first presentation since joining the company. There were lot of expectations and he was nervous.
He opened up the drawer in his study to pick the files that were required, and realised that they were missing. He started to shake. He thought he had placed the files here safely last night, how could they be gone? Trying not to lose his mind, he worked on remembering the events that would lead him to his files. When he couldn't remember what he wanted, he started looking in other drawers, cupboards, rooms...

It was 9 o' clock. Suchit stood in his father's room, with a couple of papers in his hands. His hands were trembling, his rather dark face seemed pink. Suchit, although dark, was a handsome one. He had sharp features with brown eyes and a small nose. The dimple that made him unique was missing. His mouth was open partly. Still staring at the papers, Suchit reached out to the bed beside him. He sat with a kind of despaired look, clearly unable to take what was written on the papers. After everything that had happened in the past, this was the last thing he wanted to see. It brought him nightmares. He placed the two papers beside him, and reached out to the drawer where he had found the papers. He closed the drawer, and opened the one beside it, searching for his file again. This time, he found it. He had no idea how the file found its place in his father's room, given that he hadn't visited his father's room since his death. But there was no time to think or contemplate the turn of events today, for he was already late for his presentation. He picked the papers and put it inside the file and left the house, skipping his break fast as his mother had warned.
