MORE, MORE AND MORE

Have you ever read a small DID YOU KNOW and got so excited about it that you actually went googling about it?
Could you ever control yourself not reading an inbox message on facebook? Even if it was from the person you hate?
If your answer to the first and second question is a yes and a no respectively, then you must also be a texting/facebooking/googling addict? Whats wrong with you? Why is it happening?

Here's the answer.

DOPAMINE. A known drug, right? According to most sources, dopamine is a chemical in our brain (it exists outside the nervous system as well, but we aren't paying much attention to that) which plays a major role in  motor control, motivation, arousal, cognition, and reward, as well as a number of lower-level functions including lactation, sexual gratification, and nausea.
Myth- Some sources say that dopamine controls the pleasure systems of the brain, makes us want to seek pleasures in our body that includes sex, food and drugs. Well, yeah, it ain't true.
Dopamine is all about SEEKING or WANTING or SEARCHING. Its not just about the physical needs but also information and abstract concepts. It makes us curious about ideas and increases our desire to search out information (Now i guess dopamine is all responsible for this blog). Infact, it is the chemical thats responsible to keep us motivated throughout our journey in the world. It makes us want to learn, to survive and to fight. Research shows that anticipation, which is a result of dopamine, is the key to survival. You'll starve to death even if you have food right next to you, if your dopamine neurons are removed from the brain, since you'll have no desire to eat it.
It was recently found out that 'opoid' is responsible for pleasures and enjoyment. Opoid and dopamine can be compared with simple words such as like and want.
Dopamine is never satisfied though, that's where the problem arises. It wants more and more. You have a phone, now you want a smart phone. You have a smart phone? Its time for a Galaxy Note or an Iphone.
You send a text message, you get a reply within seconds. Even if you are hell busy, you want to know what the reply is. Then you want to answer. Then you want to see the reply again.
You look up for some information for your school project in google. While reading through an information, you find something new and more interesting. You search through it. That gets you into another topic. So in some time, you realise you're searching for something that's no way related to your school project.
These three examples show how dopamine induces a loop of 'desire to seek' in our brain. This is where addiction arises and you never feel like stopping.
Interestingly, dopamine is also stimulated by unpredictability. Every text is unpredictable because you never know when it will show up, or whom it will be from. This stimulates your neurons and makes you more curious. This is the same principle involved in gambling addiction.
So we all have an addiction. So what? Why is it considered bad?
Because, it results in exhaustion of brain and also the body. It tires you and makes you incapable of work at an older age. BEWARE.
Also, some drugs like cocaine amplify the affects of dopamine so lets stay away from them.
